“Whenever one person stands up and says, “Wait a minute, this is wrong,” it helps other people do the same.” Gloria Steinem

say no to killing

Wouldn’t it be nice if we lived in a world where everyone had a strong moral compass? How safe would we all feel if everyone followed the golden rule and treated others, as they would like to be treated? If people followed the love teachings of their spiritual path, rather than invent Hate teachings, the world would be a safer place. We need people to understand that being strong and powerful comes from within, not from conquering and killing others. War and killing  need to stop being options.

What is the learning for us right now? How can we make sense of so much fear doing so much damage?  How can we honor the lives that are being lost or changed because of the prevalence of hate and fear? I don’t think the answer is to forget and just go on with our lives. I don’t think the answer is to get angry. I think we need to be indignant about wars, killings, kidnappings, bullyinglying, hate and other destructive forces. We need to use indignation to motivate ourselves into action. I think we must do something different starting today. If we want to impact on these destructive forces we need to stand together and say, “No this is wrong”. We need to think about the message we are sending to our children when we pretend these destructive forces don’t exist. If we all made a commitment to leave our children a legacy of peace and harmony, we could leave them a safer world.

peaceWhat does such a commitment mean? At the global level we must examine how we can best stand together as strong countries and deliver consequences that state, “Your destructive behavior will not be tolerated.” If we are speaking about our own country, we must take a stand to say No to the same Hate and killing  “this behavior will not be tolerated.” When we don’t stand together, the destructive forces win. If we are talking about our own lives, we need to be vigilant and say No to the same destructive forces that interfere with the Golden Rule.

A simple pledge by all of us to leave our children a legacy of peace and harmony could be the beginning of taking a stand against War. If the cost of being Right is War, that is too great a cost. If the cost of power is War, that is too great a cost.  We need to stand up and say No to the destructive forces and say yes to Love, Peace, Harmony and our children!

One response to “Say No to Killing!”

  1. Your kind of naivete cost well over 50 million people their lives allowing WWII to happen while it could have been avoided most likely without a shot.
If you want to avoid a war, the bad guys need to understand that they don’t stand a chance against the good guys. And yes, there are good guys and bad guys. People who mass behead, rape a kill civilians on purpose are bad guys.
So if you really want to live what you say you believe, then go to ISIL and preach your message to the beheaders. Preaching it to Americans is at best silly, if not calculated cheap posturing.
